Artists you should know about: Hector Hernandez

This morning I got an e-mail from a former classmate about his new website. Hector Hernandez is a superbly talented figurative artist who works in painstaking detail. I gained an even great appreciation for his work after seeing his labor-intensive process. But the results make it all worthwhile:

Cool off with Paintings Below Zero

I took these pictures back in the days before I had a blog and wanted to share them now that the hottest days of summer have finally arrived in Chicago. I hope that looking at these will feel like a dip in the pool, or a trip to your grocer's freezer. In the winter of 2008, artist Gordon Halloran created a series of site-specific pieces displayed at Millennium Park. These slabs of frozen pigments made for a visually appealing abstract mural in ice.

See my work at the Ceramics, Sculpture and Mixed Media show

This is my first show in another state! Adaptive Reuse, Adaptive Reuse 2, and Smother are all on display at the Ceramics Sculpture and Mixed Media show at CornerStone Art Gallery in Whiting Indiana. The show runs from August 1 to September 5 with an opening reception August 8 from 9am til Noon. The address is 1500 119th Street. CornerStone Art Gallery is in the back of Centier Bank.

I am very grateful to my classmate Brenda Farris for making this opportunity possible. She is a very talented ceramicist and her work will also be on display at this show. So come check us out!
