Widget Wednesday: Small is Beautiful

The Small Is Beautiful Manifesto

It seems as though everyone and their mother has a blog these days. And so more and more bloggers are crying out to get noticed. using SEO and self-promotion and services like Entrecard so that they can someday brag about how many readers they have. Eventually some blogs devolve into blogs about blogging, become an online infomercial to shill dubious products, or end up with more ads than the classifieds. These are not the kinds of blogs I want to follow, nor the kind I want to write. Blogs like that are a real turnoff to me. So that was why when I came across a link to Small is Beautiful on a blog I was reading, it was like a breath of fresh air.

  2. I like small so much that I can't imagine joining. I do, however, subscribe to the words you quote about first tries and the handmade, the personal.

  3. I'm going to check it out, but honestly, I'm not a joiner. I like links I like to read and my readers can check them out, too. And I have a widget with the items I sell online -- BUT I haven't really mentioned any of that stuff in the last month or so -- I mostly just write about what I want to write about.

That's what I like about blogging. We have the freedom to do what we want and to change it if we want! So, yeah, my blog is small [I'm one of those "everybody's mother" bloggers you mention LOL] but I'm OK with that. I'm never going to scoop anybody on some silly celebrity story, that's for sure. Not interested. But if I post a story about some mundane event around my home and anyone finds it interesting, then I feel like I've connected with another person and to me, that's success.

Thank you for posting such an interesting and thought provoking topic! :D

  4. Thanks, everyone! I'm glad you like the concept of Small is Beautiful as much as I do. I agree with you, Sunflower Ranch, it is great to be able to connect with other people through blogging. I think that's why I am so opposed to the idea of taking a medium of such great self-expression and reducing it to a get-rich-quick scheme, as some people have. not you, though, Sunflower Ranch ;)
